Explanation of Maccabiah:
Here with me are our two incredible Head Honcho’s for Maccabiah 2024. We have Safira and Joshua. Being a Head Honcho is a tremendous amount of work. For that reason, I decided it would be a good idea to interview our Head Honcho’s by asking five questions so that you can get to know them better. Our Maccabiah last two incredible days filled with relay sports, an arts and rope burning competition and an epic basketball game.
Question #1: Hi guys! Can you please tell me a little bit about yourself:
Joshua: Hi My name is Joshua and I am the song leader this summer and have been at camp for the last 10 summers.
Safira: My name is Safria I go by Saf, I hail from a little village out of London I am currently in university studying computer science and this is my first summer at Camp Mountain Chai. I am the Amirim Assistant Unit Leader this summer.
Question #2: When it comes to Maccabiah, what are you most excited about?
Joshua: Aside from being the head honcho this year, I am most excited that I get the chance to give back to the community with a program that I love so much and make the kids excited about it.
Safira: I am most excited for the atmosphere and to see all the ruach the campers have. I am also so excited for the Maccabiah break, I can’t wait to see the kids’ reactions.
Question #3: How did you feel when they asked you to be a Head Honcho?
Joshua: I was really stoked and so excited. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time and just to get that experience was amazing.
Safira: I can’t even think of a word to describe how I felt. I just felt epic what an incredible opportunity I was given. I was just so grateful for this leadership role.
Question #4: What goes into being a Head Honcho?
Joshua: A lot, as I learned there is so much leadership and teamwork. Your job is to really have to think about the big picture and make it fun for everyone and making sure that everyone is having the best time and staff are involved.
Safira: Alot of planning and energy. We have to know this game back and front so alot of understanding and rules and setting up and gathering all the materials.
Question #5 What is your favorite event at Maccabiah?
Joshua: The relay has been my favorite for the past 9 years. I loved the orange juggling station, that was my favorite as a camper and the fact that I got to pass it on is just so special. I love to watch the energy of the race and see the excitement at the end.
Safira: I loved the break and the energy all around it, the campers were freaking out.
I also loved running the relay with all the kids and cheering them on and hype them up.
for the kids and captains to look up to and spread purple love all around and compassion so that campers can show off their skills and love for the game.
